Self Assessment During Information Systems Management, we studied what a technology rich classroom should incorporate in order to be successful and be a Sustainable Classroom .The Sustainable Classroom is a classroom technology integration model that utilizes a broad number of highly visual, interactive technologies with a single computer in order to support the nine instructional strategies that are identified in Robert Marzano's book Classroom Instruction That Works (Marzano, Pickering, and Pollock, 2001). We watched videos about what the classrooms should look like and how they should be set up for durability and efficiency. With this information we were able to envision what a classroom will look like in 5 years and reflected on it. We interviewed a veteran teacher about the technology differences that he/she has witnessed for the past 30 years. This assignment taught me about how technology is ever-changing. It warrants the research that states that technology is a constant process and continues to grow and consistently excel. Just to think about how technology in the school system has changed in the last 5 years is amazing. This course also gave us a chance to interview staff members about our current student information system. Having used this program for the last two years I feel that it has many opportunities to help benefit our district. We are all still learning this program and seem to find something new each year that can benefit the teachers, parents, and students. Technology continues to profoundly affect the way we work, collaborate, communicate and succeed. I was impressed with the interviewing process and was eager to learn other teachers' points of views about technology, the progress it has made, and the changes others have witnessed in their careers. At the end of this course, we created a PowerPoint about the current Technology Plan for our district. I found what our technology plan currently entails and what the future holds for technology integration in our school district. District and school leaders must have a vision for success and communicate with others to make a shared vision (Soloman & Schrum, 2007). I thoroughly enjoyed working with the teachers for the interview and found working through the Technology Plan quite interesting. I feel that this class will help me meet all Technology Facilitator Standards for NTSE.
Learn as a Learner While completing the assignments for this class I really had to use time management. I found myself learning more about what you can do with a power point. Many of the things that I did use I probably would not have if it wasn't for this class. One in particular was adding the narrative to the power point about what the future of technology holds for my district. Sometimes it was difficult to complete assignments due to the fact that people did not want to cooperate or take the time to answer a few questions. Many of the items that I did present in my power points were ones that I researched on my own.
Lifelong Learning Skills This course has given me the skills that I need to take a classroom and turn it into a 21st century classroom. This gives me the tools that I need as a leader on what to look for to create a classroom that keeps all learners in mind. Having these tools at my side will also help me now as a classroom teacher. I can guide my fellow colleagues in helping to create a classroom that benefits all students needs. I think the biggest fear and question that I have is how can you get those who show no interest in this new technology to understand it's importance in creating a classroom that will benefit all students.
